Adur BSAC (originally Adur Junior Divers and Snorkelers but that's far less catchy) is a family oriented club. We specialise in training young people to become competent and safe divers whilst developing a lasting relationship with all our member.
We try and distance ourselves from the commercial tendencies and aspects of some clubs in favour of a more social approach. We meet every Tuesday for pool training sessions, have dive lectures/theory days, go on weekend diving-camping trips and occasionally go to the pub (the members that are of age of course).
The bulk of our divers come from the snorkelling section of our club. Snorkelers can start from 8 years old and are eligible to be moved up to the scuba side of the pool by the time they reach 14 years old. It’s not instant though, diving is both physically and mentally taxing so we make doubly sure that we trust a snorkeler’s ability before they are ‘promoted’.
Quite often as parents sit by and watch their kid(s) progress into diving they begin to express more of an interest in trying it for themselves. It’s not uncommon that’s parents end up joining in, learning as their child does or even getting taught by their newly qualified child.
Once you become a diver you’ll be given a set of club kit on loan. BCD, Regs and a Cylinder. We understand that diving is not a cheap sport so we loan out club kit for trainees to use for pool sessions and out on trips. Extra kit, like drysuits and such, is also lent out for dive trips as UK diving isn’t exactly renowned for being ‘temperate’.
It’s a big and exciting step for the young divers to be trusted with so much gear but we feel it’s the best way to show them the effort that goes into diving. Learning to take care of your kit is a key element of the whole process. It’s a test of how well you can cope with the responsibility of owning your own kit because unfortunately the club cannot supply a set indefinitely, however we have many experienced divers that can offer lots of advice when it comes to eventually buying your own.
We can be as accommodating as you feel ambitious. If only reaching Ocean or Sport Diver is your goal then we can do that. If you want to make it all the way to Instructor or Dive Leader then we can do that too. The amount you get out of diving is entirely dependent on how much effort you put in.
For more information contact us with the information provided on the ‘contact us’ page or turn up for a chat on one of our Tuesday sessions - 8:00pm till 9:00pm.
